The Unbound Voices series is dedicated to the unearthing and elevation of African narratives that have been historically sidelined, geographically displaced, or overlooked by the traditional literary establishment. This series serves as a sanctuary for the “transnational”—authors whose lives and works span continents—and the “marginalized”—those writing from the intersections of identity, language, and social periphery.
CORE FOCUS AREAS
- The Recovered Past: Bringing back into circulation out-of-print classics and “lost” manuscripts from the 20th century that offer vital, underappreciated perspectives on the African experience.
- The Transnational Present: Publishing contemporary works that explore the fluidity of home, the complexities of the diaspora, and the voices of authors living between cultures.
- Narrative Resilience: Focusing on stories of resistance, quiet everyday lives, and experimental forms that challenge the monolithic “single story” of the continent.
MANUSCRIPT PROPOSAL REQUIREMENTS
Editors & Advisory Members
Interested authors, editors, and translators should submit a concise book proposal containing the following items:
- Project Overview: A 1–2-page prospectus summarizing the book’s core premise, significance, target audience, and alignment with Unbound Voices.
- Annotated Table of Contents: Brief summaries (1–2 paragraphs) for each proposed chapter or section.
- Sample Chapters: 1 to 2 completed sample chapters (or full manuscript if available).
- Author / Editor Biography: A short bio and CV highlighting relevant background, publications, or experience.
- Market Analysis: Brief note on comparable published titles and the intended readership.
